MEET OUR DENTISTS

Dr. Selam Totonchi

Dr. Selam Totonchi grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at the University of Illinois – Urbana, Champaign. He continued his education and received a Master of Science in Chemistry at Northeastern Illinois University. After a few years of being a Research and Development Chemist, Dr. Totonchi decided to change paths and pursue a lifelong career in Dentistry where he completed his DMD at University of Illinois – Chicago College of Dentistry. During his dental education, he became the President of the American Dental Education Association Chapter at UIC and participated in national conferences to improve quality and access to oral health care. Dr. Totonchi continued advancing his dental techniques and education by completing a General Practice Residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

When not in the office, Dr. Totonchi loves to spend most of his time with friends and family. He is the fun uncle of 8 nieces and nephews all ranging between the ages of 0 to 7. He is a foodie that loves trying different restaurants and cuisines. Additionally, his other hobbies are playing competitive racquetball, interactive board games, and free-style cooking.

Dr. Totonchi is dedicated to providing the highest quality of dental care and ensures that his patients are comfortable in the dental chair. When asked what his favorite aspect of dentistry is, Dr. Totonchi said, “Being able to get patients out of pain, along with the joy and smiles after doing so!”

I highly recommend this dental office. The staff was polite and the space was very clean and up to date. Brooke, the hygienist, was very thorough with my cleaning and I will definitely be coming back to see her. Dr. T provided good insight and gave me a few things to watch out for which is appreciated. I left with a clean brighter smile. Overall, great efficient experience. I would trust this office with all my dental needs.

Have been a patient here for 2 years, and have nothing but good things to say! The dental hygienists are always so pleasant. I recently have had Brooke, and she was delightful. Very nice to talk with, and she also did a great job of providing helpful and honest feedback. I really appreciate this practice because they will tell you how it is. They’re not going to tell you that you’ve got cavities simply so they can bill your insurance, but rather will only tell you that you’ve got a cavity if it’s in fact true.

I switched to Smile Obsession a little over a year ago, and I am so grateful I did! All of the staff at Smile Obsession are friendly and welcoming, and I don’t feel rushed when I come in for my appointments. They take time to answer any questions in depth, and they have flexible evening hours for those of us who can’t make it earlier in the day. Brooke, the hygienist, is super sweet and caring, and Dr. Totonchi is very attentive and knowledgeable. The office is beautiful and very clean, too!

Very professional office. Extremely clean. Very nice people. They put you at ease. Dr. Totonchi was very good at explaining what procedure I needed done and really made sure I followed up on my care and explained everything financially and how my insurance would cover what I needed done, which really helped. Brooke, the hygienist, was very personable. Definitely recommend this office for you dental needs.

My 11 year old daughter saw Dr. T. for an issue with 5 baby teeth that weren't coming out. He recommended an extraction and asked if she wanted all five done the same appointment. She said yes and he walked her through the whole thing. He answered all of our questions and was very informative about aftercare. She was very happy and relieved to finally have those teeth out. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually like going to the dentist! Smile Obsession Wheaton is amazing. Susan at the front desk greets me warmly each time. The staff is awesome. They take the time to get to know me and understand my medical history, which helps them deliver the best care possible. I’m moving to a new part of the city, but will continue to go Smile Obsession Wheaton because it’s the best!

Chairs that massage are nice. Staff has completely changed since my first two visits with no notification though they did keep my appointment. Only opened every other Saturday.

Great experience! Hiral my hygienist was very patient and thorough. I told her I get anxiety and she was very compassionate and made great effort to ensure I felt comfortable. Jessica was a great assistant and extremely efficient. Dr T was so efficient and helpful! And Susan at the front desk was just such a sweetheart! I recommend this office and will return as my primary dental office ☺️

I initially went in for a second opinion after being told by a different dentist I needed to have a crown put on one of my front teeth. The crown would've costed over $1,000 more and would have involved having to shave down the front tooth. At Smile Obsession I was assured the crown was not necessary and was lucky enough to have a filling done the same day. Dr. Selam and the assistant checked on me throughout the whole procedure to make sure I was okay, and even let me check out the filled in tooth to see that it was to my liking before wrapping things up. Even the "worse part of the procedure", being stuck with the anesthetic needle, was pretty seamless.

What a fabulous experience! I was promptly greeted with kindness and professionalism. The waiting room, exam rooms and x-ray room were all very clean. Everything was warm and welcoming. The staff was so kind, experienced and helpful, big thanks to Hiral! I will be returning for all my dental needs! Also, very reasonably priced with my insurance.

Got me in same day for an extraction which is almost unheard of these days for starters. Easy to find location in Wheaton with knowledgeable, caring, kind and friendly staff. Didn't have to wait either so quite prompt as well by the way. All around positive experience!

It had been a while since I’ve been to the dentist and was fairly nervous. I have a very sensitive gag reflex when it comes to X-rays and they took their time and didn’t make me feel bad about my inability to get them done one the first try. The cleaning was great. My old dentist was so rough on my teeth, but the hygienist was amazing. She was so gentle but really effective. Once I saw the dentist, he told me I would need a crown, but he seemed to be able to answer all of my questions that I had about the procedure. I will continue to see them and definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a new dentist

Honestly I came to this dental office because of the reviews and had check it out. The experience I had at this office was great. The doctor and Dental hygienist were very friendly and made me feel comfortable. Also the equipment for the X-rays was one that I never seen before and it was pretty cool. They were very helpful about explaining and answered all my questions to my X-rays. They’re also very kid friendly so that just made the experience a lot better. I want to thank Julia for the great 1st time experience. 🙏🏽
