What Is A Root Canal Treatment?
A root canal is a treatment directed towards the center of the tooth that can be inflamed, dead, or infected. The center of your tooth, also called the pulp, is a soft substance that consists of blood vessels, nerve, and connective tissue which is why the pain at times can be intense. Some symptoms of this infection include tooth swelling, sensitivity to temperatures, or feeling of pain in the gums and tooth. It is important that if you are experiencing any of these symptoms you get in touch with our dentist office to schedule an appointment.

Root Canal Re-Treatment
The root canal re-treatment is very similar to the root canal treatment. However, there are a few extra measures we take that at times is split into two visits. The first visit consists of removing all the root canal filling and placing antibacterial paste known as calcium hydroxide. We then close the tooth with a temporary filling. We leave the antibacterial paste on the tooth for a period of time to prevent bacteria entering and giving the tooth an opportunity to heal.
During the second visit, we remove the calcium hydroxide paste and then thoroughly clean the canals. We then add a new root canal filling with a temporary filling and once your tooth is restored this filling will be removed by your dentist.
The root canal re-treatment procedure success rate is very high and our dentists at Smile Obsession have had years of experience in the field of dentistry.
Root Canal Procedure
Root canal therapy is the process in which we remove the decayed part of the tooth and create an opening into the pulp (center of the tooth). Our root canal specialists will carefully remove the tooth’s pulp and clean the canals of the tooth with dental tools. Once the infected part of the pulp is removed, we sterilize the canal and fill it with gutta percha. Gutta percha is used in root canal treatment to fill the empty space inside the root of the tooth. This is necessary to prevent future infections of the tooth.
